The weather has been looking pretty miserable lately, which means little ones and the parents have been stuck inside! A good way to get restless kids out and about again is checking out the Green Monkeys community play café.
Located in Seacombe Gardens, the Green Monkeys café is a volunteer-run play café, where you can bring your pre-school age kids along to the indoor playground for a gold coin donation.
Green Monkeys is a fun 2-level indoor netted playground and runs much like a playgroup. Open from 9:30am – 11:30am during the school term, the young kiddies can enjoy two slides, a tunnel, a helicopter cockpit, spinners, punching bags, a swing and more.
The play café is designed to suit children under 6 years old, but there’s also a toddler plat mat and toys available for younger kids.
All children need to wear socks and use hand sanitiser before entering the playground for safety, hygiene, and cleanliness reasons. If your child cannot use hand sanitiser, Green Monkeys recommends that the child wash their hands beforehand.
If you forget to bring socks, they can be purchased for $1.50 at the welcome desk.
The café is located in between Darlington Primary School and Seaview High School – perfect to keep the younger siblings entertained once the big kids have been dropped off at school.
Parents are always responsible for their own children at the venue, but at least one volunteer will be in the playground with the children at all times for an extra pair of eyes, as you enjoy your coffee.
All volunteers wear a Green Monkeys t-shirt or lanyard, so they'll be hard to miss. All volunteers also have a Working With Children Check.
As well as coffee, the small café also serves tea, iced drinks, cake, and biscuits. So while you wouldn't visit for a full breakfast, it's a great coffee pit stop to keep the kids happy.
